Pampering Campers
Alder Dune Campground, in the Siuslaw National Forest, is open year-round. Alder and Dune lakes, within the
campground, are stocked with rainbow trout several times a year.
Setting:
Beautiful coastal shrubbery and alder, spruce, fir and cedar trees
provide privacy and shelter for fishermen and campers. The
campground is located in the Sutton Recreation Area near Florence,
Oregon.
Facility:
Alder Dune has 39 developed campsites, each with a picnic
table and fire pit. Campsites adjacent to Alder Lake (sites 1
through 22) are reserveable from mid-May through Labor
Day. Sites 23 through 39, near Dune Lake, are open
year-round. Vault toilets are provided and cared for by the
campground host. Day Use parking is available near both
lakes. Picnic tables and a flush restroom are also provided
next to Dune Lake on the south end of the campground.
Camping Tips:
A campground host lives on site to provide customer service. Firewood can be purchased from the host. The closest
services are in Florence. Campfires are allowed in the fire pits. Keep all wheels on the pavement. There is NO access
to the dunes for ATV’s from Alder Dune Campground. Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash, not left alone in
the campsite and their waste is picked up.
Campground Features:
The south end of the campground is open year-
round. Hiking trails are accessible from the
campground. An easy to moderate trail goes
around Alder Lake. The trail from the Day Use
parking, at Dune Lake, is connected to the
Sutton trail system along Sutton Creek, Holman
Vista and Darlingtonia Bog. No ATV’s are
allowed on these trails and must stay on their
trailers in the campground.
