The muledeer around Lake Almanor, California, are gorgeous!

I had so much fun watching the white-headed woodpecker couple raise their babies at Rocky Point Campground (on Lake Almanor, California).  Both mom and dad brought food. The baby girl was the most aggressive feeder so she fledged first. Then her brother left a day later. I also enjoyed watching mom and dad catch live insects as they started bringing the babies fresh food so they could get used to catching their food when they moved out.  They timed their family for when the hex hatch would be going strong when the young were ready to leave the nest.  God's plan is SO amazing!

We have a white-headed woodpecker pair, raising their family in this stump. These are the only woodpeckers with white heads. The male has a red band on the back of his neck. Both parents built the nest and incubated the eggs. They are both seen flying in and out of the nest. I hope to get pix of the little ones soon!

Hhhmmm - been a while since we posted - I guess we're officially "agate addicts". The agate beds are still exposed here at Tillicum Beach. We now have a double-barrelled (sp?) rock tumbler and a summer's worth of rocks to polish. I prefer looking for whole sand dollars though. Don found this one. I saved it, even though it is broken, because it hasn't been dead for too long. You can still see the tiny hairs on the bottom (sand dollar feet).
